Thank you for contacting us! Coconut Coir Logs are an all-natural erosion control product that is designed to help reinforce banks, stabilize slopes, and support other areas prone to erosion. Due to their natural coir fibers, the coir log is often used as an environmentally safe solution for erosion.
The coir erosion control log has been created using fibers from coconut husks. These fibers are typically soaked in water for an extended period of time in order to soften them up. This helps to increase their strength, flexibility and life span.

Coir is essentially a by-product from coconut harvesting. Coir is derived from the husks of coconuts and then retted (soaked) in water for increased flexibility. After this process has been completed, coir fibers are then separated out to form various types of coir.
Mattress coir is the type of coir that is typically used to fill the inside of the coir logs. This coir fiber is shorter in length, allowing it to be densely packed within the log.
Bristle coir twine, by contrast, is a longer fiber that offers increased strength. This long bristle coir twine is taken and woven into a net that features openings of 2 inches by 2 inches (2" x 2"). This is used for the outer net of the coir log to provide a reliable outer structure for holding in the mattress coir.

The diameter of your coir log is chosen based on your area location and the type of erosion you are trying to control. While the coir log is typically offered in a length of around ten feet (10'), several logs are often joined together to form a longer erosion control barrier.
Coir logs for erosion control can be custom built to a longer length, however, dealing with smaller logs is often the best option as the logs are easier to handle and easier to ship.
