Grass Seed Matting
Excelsior Erosion Control Mats and Blankets
Excelsior grass seed matting covers slopes and large open areas preventing erosion. Our erosion control mats and blankets are used to not only prevent erosion, but to promote new or regrowth of vegetation. You’ll be surprised to find that our Excelsior mats are a good alternative to coir. They are much more affordable that coir, and ship faster. Excelsior fabric, made entirely from Aspen wood shavings, helps provide stabilization, support, and coverage along banks, channels, roads, and other low-flow areas. Our Excelsior grass seed blanket is plant-able, holding soil in place to encourage new grass growth and regrowth of existing grass, creating more stabilized slopes, hillsides, riverbanks, or parks and recreation areas. Excelsior matting is utilized in short-term projects with low water flows for lower slopes. Our erosion control blanket provides sediment control in larger open areas with moderate erosion and water flow, as well as on steep slopes for stabilization. Made in the US, they are affordable, available, and ready to ship to you! Talk with one of our team members about Excelsior seed blankets and matting for your specific application.
Note: Coir, like many products sourced from overseas, is less available due to trouble with supply and getting the products through port systems. Across the entire industry, Coir is not only less available, but also more expensive. However, we do have erosion control alternatives. Excelsior Erosion Control Mats and Blankets
Designed for use with low to medium water flow, grass seed matting is the ideal solution for erosion and sediment control. Excelsior’s curled Aspen wood fiber has a built-in swell factor, allowing soil to bond with fibers as it expand to form a stronger matrix when fibers become wet. The grass seed blanket is plant-able, giving you the option to spread grass or other seed in the mats. The matting holds the seeds in place and keeps them from washing away, providing an appropriate environment for seeds to germinate and grow. Once the seed takes root beneath the grass seed mat, the biodegradable fibers simply composts over time, enriching the surrounding soil.
